Eligibility of Competitors

 

Age group participation is governed by the age of the participant as of June 1st .  No individual living at one lake can participate on a team of another lake. Competitors on the team representing member organizations in Hub Lake League competition shall be bona fide residents of the communities in which the clubs’ organizations are located. A “bona fide resident” is a person who is a year round or a summer resident within the community’s territorial limits. A “summer resident” means one whose family owns or rents a home in the community and who lives there at least during the months of July and August of the year he/she competes in league activities. Dependent children in the care and custody of a “bona fide resident” of a member organization shall be eligible to participate in all sports. Recognizing there may be borderline cases, the Eligibility Committee shall be authorized to consider a “special case” and to decide on its merits. No exception shall be considered a precedent for any other case. All requests must be submitted to the VP of Administration by April 15 of the year in which eligibility is desired. Once a “special case” has been approved by the Eligibility Committee and the Board, that person shall be a full member of Hub Lakes unless his/her status in the lake community changes. This person’s status must be reconsidered by the Eligibility Committee, in any following year, if requested by a 2/3 vote of the full Board. In the event the eligibility of a competitor is challenged, either by the director of the league or by the manager of another team, the protest shall be communicated to a league director or the Chairman of the Eligibility Committee by the manager of the protesting team or by the representative from that community. The protest shall be made immediately and in any event must be made no later than one week after final events for that sport. The Eligibility Committee shall thereupon meet to consider the protest and may require the team or sponsoring organization in question to submit proof of its competitor’s ability to meet the residence requirements. Failure to do so shall result in disqualification of the player. Use of an ineligible player will force a team to forfeit all its games, matches or similar events in which the player took part and forfeit all points scored by the player or his/her team. Use of any ineligible player will force a forfeit of points to the entire team in:

Horseshoes, Roller Hockey, Softball, Table Tennis and Volleyball; to the individuals score in Bowling, Diving, Golf, Swimming and Track.

Protest Procedure: Unsportsmanlike Conduct/Rule Changes:

1.         Protest must verbally be reported to the Sports Chairman within 24 hours followed by a written report in 72 hours.

2.         The Sports Chairman must inform the challenged team’s coach and allow 48 hours for a written rebuttal.

3.         The Sports Chairman must inform the VP of Operations if negotiations fail to reach a compromise or decision. The Sports Chairman will form a committee of 3 persons including self and 2 coaches from a non-connected lake and the VP of Operations will be present. Their decision will be irrevocable and final.

4.         If the committee cannot resolve the dispute, it will be presented to the full Board of Directors. Such discipline may result in loss of points, or suspension for past, current or following season for the offender.

POINT SCORING AND TROPHIES

The Hub Lakes League awards two trophies to competing lakes. The first is the Overall Trophy. For this trophy, points are awarded for each sport based on team standings. The second trophy is the Handicap Trophy. Points are awarded for this trophy in the same manner as the Overall Trophy, however, each lake will be given a handicap based on the previous 3 years results. The winner of the Overall Trophy is not eligible to win the Handicap Trophy. The point system and handicaps are listed below.

Points will be awarded to teams in the following manner, regardless of the number of teams participating:

This point system rewards participation by  awarding higher points to those team that do compete. Because of this, the lakes are encouraged to field teams in more sports in order to earn additional points.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES

A minimum of 3 teams will be allowed to compete provided that these teams play each other twice. Sports in which 4 teams participate must also play each other twice. In order to qualify for points, a team must participate in at least 50% of the sports’ schedule (excluding Swimming and Diving). Winning by forfeit counts as having played.

NOTICE OF INSURANCE

The Hub Lakes League is a non-profit organization operating for the benefit of its members. As a non-profit entity, the Hub Lakes League does not have the financial resources to provide medical or liability coverage for those who participate in Hub Lakes sponsored events. Such coverage is the responsibility of the member organizations or the individual participants.
